Who is Wounded Hawk?

Half Crow, Half English, the young Deputy US Marshal is Yale educated. Some say that Hawk can track crickets across the grass, or a vinegaroon over the rocks. An affable man, with a pleasant smile and easy manner. He worked hard at winning people over, for hatred of half-breeds ran deep in the people of the 1860s American West.

At his birth, his half-sister asked, “What shall we call him?”

“Hawk, after Swift Hawk his father, and Wounded,” his mother said, her voice raspy laden with sadness. “For he shall never fit in with his father’s people nor mine.”
